About the Position:
NEXUMA, a rapidly growing biotech startup in sunny South Florida focused on the
development of green tech, is seeking a motivated Research Technician with a strong
science background to study interactions between bacteria and stone substrates. This
position is ideal for someone with experience in microbiology, environmental science, or a
related field. The role will involve culturing bacteria, conducting laboratory experiments, and
assisting with fieldwork.
You will be working in a team of experts in microbiology and biochemistry as well as
experienced entrepreneurs building a solution for preventing flooding in South Florida. There
is lots of experimental work to be carried out in an innovation environment with a large
potential for professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform bacterial culturing and maintain microbial strains
• Conduct experiments on microbial-stone substrate interactions
• Prepare and analyze samples using standard microbiological techniques
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and data
• Assist in sample collection and transport
• Follow lab safety protocols and sterilization procedures
• Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary research team
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Environmental Science, or a related field
• Experience with bacterial culturing techniques, including:

Aseptic techniques
-
Streak plating and colony isolation
-
Media preparation
-
Gram staining and microscopy
-
Sterilization techniques (autoclaving, filtration)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain organized records
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting
• No 9 to 5 mentality with a drive for impactful innovation
